Have a safe Christmas message from council.

As Christmas draws near, St.Helens Council is campaigning for a safer festive season with the launch of a hard hitting campaign.
‘One Punch Can Kill’ -  warns people of the link between too much alcohol and violence.  It links in with Home Office campaign about people who have lost their lives as a result of senseless violence.
Now with Christmas approaching and people drinking more than usual, the council wants the campaign to raise awareness of the link between drinking too much and alcohol related violence.

Says Councillor Sue Murphy, Cabinet Member for Family Intervention and Safer Communities:  “We want people to enjoy the great entertainment that our town centre has to offer.  We have a very vibrant and safe night-time economy where people an enjoy a meal and a drink in safety.  We want this to continue.

“That is why we think the time is right to launch this campaign to alert people to the  possible dangers. Alcohol can lead people who are normally mild mannered to get involved in fights, and the normally sensible to find themselves in vulnerable situations. We are working to raise awareness about how even one punch can have devastating consequences and to encourage people to enjoy a drink responsibly.”
