Business Watch

Business Watch

Following on from the success in St Helens Town Centre, Police in St Helens has teamed up with St Helens Chamber and other local partners to introduce Business Watch in Newton and Earlestown.

A radio link system has been re-instated, allowing local businesses to communicate directly with each other and the Police. This is already having a positive effect on deterring crime.

Police radio

A new digital radio system linking to the central CCTV suite in St Helens will be installed in February 2008.

37 radios have been handed out in the town and on the High street in Newton.

Pubwatch have also joined up and 12 public houses have now got radios - again this is already showing benefits with rowdy customers.

Working with St Helens Chamber, grants have been organised for the new members resulting in broadband Internet being supplied and appropriate staff training delivered.

All members of Shopwatch also gain membership to St Helens Chamber.

Security guards have been set up to patrol Sankey Valley Industrial Estate.

A Community Interest Company has been set up on Sankey Valley industrial estate, one of the first of its kind in the country - all of which makes Earlestown and Newton a safer place to shop, to do business and to socialise of an evening.
